PUPPY DEPOSITS

There is a growing narrative online that “any breeder who asks for a deposit is a scam.”

 

That’s simply not accurate and it reflects a misunderstanding of how responsible breeding programs operate.

A deposit isn’t just “sending money.”

It’s a commitment.

From you: this is the puppy I’m choosing.

From us: this puppy is now reserved for you.

Once a deposit is placed, that puppy is no longer advertised.

We stop taking applications for that spot.

We turn away other families who were ready and waiting.

 

Here’s the reality

If someone places a deposit and then changes their mind two weeks later, we don’t just “refund and move on.”

We’ve already:

• Held that puppy exclusively

• Declined other suitable homes

• Lost valuable time during a critical placement window

Now we’re starting again from scratch.

That is why deposits are non-refundable.

Not as a penalty, and not as a way to profit, but to account for the time, opportunity, and serious homes that were already invested in that reservation.

Deposits aren’t a red flag.🚩

They’re what keep the process fair, structured, and respectful for everyone involved.

Any ethical breeder will clearly outline their deposit policy upfront, before any money changes hands.

If you’re unsure, ask questions. You absolutely should.

But labeling all deposits as a scam undermines breeders who are operating responsibly and transparently.

 

This isn’t retail.

You can’t “put a puppy back on the shelf.”

These are real lives, real planning, and real commitments.
